Esce “Bark at the Moon“

15 novembre 1983: “Bark at the Moon” è il terzo album in studio del cantante Ozzy Osbourne. L’album vede l’arrivo del funambolico chitarrista Jake E.Lee e il ritorno di Don Airey alle tastiere. Si distinse musicalmente dai precedenti per la forte componente di suoni sintetizzati (molto usati nel rock e nel pop anni ’80) che contaminò anche il sound di altri gruppi heavy metal.
Nonostante non sia considerato popolare come i due precedenti, il disco ebbe un notevole successo, vendendo oltre 4 000 000 di copie in tutto il mondo, con tre dischi di platino vinti negli U.S.A., tant’è che nel successivo tour, Ozzy e la sua band vennero accolti con forte calore dal pubblico. L’ottimo successo del tour spinse Ozzy anche a pubblicarne l’home video omonimo Bark at the Moon, che raccoglie alcune performance del gruppo durante la tournée.
Il lavoro venne ancora rimasterizzato nel 1995. Un’ulteriore edizione, con un nuovo mixaggio effettuato al fine di rendere l’album maggiormente affine ai canoni metal attuali, è stata poi pubblicata nel 2002.

Esce “Smashes, Thrashes & Hits“

15 novembre 1988: “Smashes, Thrashes & Hits” è una raccolta del gruppo hard rock statunitense KISS, pubblicata per l’etichetta discografica Mercury Records.
Contiene due canzoni inedite, ossia “You Make Me Rock Hard” e “Let’s Put the X in the Sex“, con le quali sono stati realizzati due videoclip. Le tracce restanti sono state pubblicate tutte prima del 1983, eccetto tre brani.
Molte tracce già edite hanno subito alcune modifiche: la più evidente si può notare in “Beth“, in cui Eric Carr canta in sostituzione di Peter Criss.
Dell’album (certificato doppio disco di platino nel 1996) è stata pubblicata una versione differente nel Regno Unito, in cui sono presenti due tracce in più (“Crazy Crazy Nights“, il cui singolo si fermò al quarto posto della classifica britannica, e “Reason to Live” che sostituisce “Deuce“, presente invece nella versione statunitense).
