Iron Maiden: presunto plagio per “Hallowed Be Thy Name”
“Hallowed Be Thy Name” è il famoso brano tratto da “The Number Of The Beast“, terzo album in studio degli Iron Maiden. Secondo quanto riportato dai quotidiani inglesi The Thelegraph e Mirror, la band ha deciso di rimuovere il classico datato 1982 dalla setlist del tour attualmente in corso a causa di una denuncia per plagio sporta nei confronti del bassista Steve Harris e del chitarrista Dave Murray dal manager in pensione Barry McKay per conto di Brian Quinn.
McKay sostiene infatti che diverse parti dei testi della canzone composta da Harris siano stati ripresi da “Lying in my Shadow“, scritta da Robert Barton e Brian Quinn (alias Brian Ingham) e successivamente pubblicata dalla band Beckett nel 1974 con il titolo di “Life’s Shadow“. Al centro della disputa ci sarebbero anche alcune parti strumentali del pezzo “Life’s Shadow“, che a detta di Quinn sarebbero state copiate su “The Nomad“, brano pubblicato dagli Iron Maiden nel 2000 sull’album “Brave New World“. The Mirror riporta che se negli anni scorsi la questione con uno dei due compositori, Robert Barton, sia stata risolta mediante un accordo con Steve Harris, ancora sarebbe del tutto aperta per quanto riguarda Brian Quinn che dal canto suo afferma di aver saputo dell’accordo solo di recente. La causa ammonterebbe a circa 200.000 sterline.

“Non era necessario che togliessero il pezzo dalle setlist. Ad ogni modo se vogliono fare le cose nel modo giusto, possono contattare me o i miei avvocati e ottenere un semplice accordo per suonare “Hallowed Be Thy Name“. Non è mai stata mia intenzione non permettere ai fan di ascoltare uno dei loro pezzi preferiti degli Iron Maiden“.

“Come precedentemente annunciato, per la seconda parte del “The Book Of Souls” tour, abbiamo dovuto fare un paio di cambiamenti. Innanzitutto abbiamo scelto un pezzo diverso dal nuovo album e inoltre abbiamo rimpiazzato “Hallowed Be Thy Name” dopo aver appreso di una disputa legale”.
